I am and have been always using "standard" red october.
-
What are you doing when it happens? Red October Standard?
Did you try a reboot?
Take a look in the "Previous" log under Help after it happens. You should find the word "crash" near the bottom.
-
THIS CRASH HAPPEND WHEN I CLICKED PLAY IN THE PLAY DOCTOR.
on pretty much all your responses you tell everyone to use the Standard version of Red October.... did you not understand or see my comment at the bottom of my last post? Yes, I am NOT using the HD RO version.... this is getting ridiculous!
Yes, restarting the computer does not help, your software continues to crash at random... I can't justify paying for software that requires me to reboot 20 times a day!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN, Take a look in the "Previous" log under Help after it happens. You should find the word "crash" near the bottom...

I'm sorry you're not happy, but I was trying to help.
Please see the link called "Stability" in my signature.

This one happened... well, I guess you'll see when it happened based on the log file.

Ok, have read the info you've provided... here are now my questions/comments in no particular order, Please respond to each under each question/comment so I know I don't need to repeat myself:
1. It appears the log resets everytime the software is restarted, correct?
2. I've searched for the word "crash" in the log file, I see no such word eventhough the software just "crashed".
3. I have disabled auto import.
4. I have not installed any plugins.
5. I am running MS Security Essentials and this is the only anti-virus program being run, do you seriously want me to turn off my anti-virus to see if that is what is causing your program to crash?
6. I don't have to think about what changes have I made since MC started crashing because it has been crashing at will since I first loaded it a few days ago.
7. Please understand, I want your software to work because if it were not for the "crashes" I would put MC as probably the best "idea" developed I've come across as it relates to controling "all" media on a computer.
8. Do you want me to start a new "thread" on this?
-
You could try this thread as well:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=24031.100
That has three pages of problems that were thought to be MC related but turned out to be something like a virus checker. MS Security Essentials was one of them.
There are two logs. Current is for the session you're currently running. Previous is for the one before. If you look at logs AFTER a crash, look at previous. If you don't see "crash" in it, the problem is probably occuring outside MC.
Edit: Looks like you found the problem:
Fault Module Name: avcodec-53.dll
It looks like it's part of ffdshow:
https://www.avcodec.org/trac/ffmpeg/ticket/281
Try playing single filetypes at a time to see if you can find ones that work and ones that don't.
I'm guessing one filetype will cause problems.
-
Actually, avcodec-53.dll seems to be one of MC's LAV splitter files.
At least on my PC, the only copy of it is in:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 16\Plugins\lav
hiandyp,
As Jim said it would be useful to know what kind of files are causing the problem. Perhaps you could use the MediaInfo program, check the exact file format and include the details in your reply. http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
For now, as a workaround, you could try the Merit based video playback mode. It might work if your system has suitable DirectShow filters installed.
-
I am only playing .iso files. I loaded the mediainfo software, what other info do you want?
I have changed to the video setting you have suggested... will let u know if things change.
-
ok... so what email address do i send these log files too? Ready to send you one... yeeee hah!

makes things worse... in this setting i have NO audio in zone 3.
Also, have had like 2 crashes in the last 20 minutes... let me know where to send these log files to,. thx.
-
Ok, well, no one responded to my request for where to send the log files to since I cannot use the quick link in the software... anyway found the email to send to and sent via gmail. Someone please let me know what can be done to fix this ongoing crash issue. Thx.

Please try clearing the bookmark for the DVD you are playing. Pick the DVD > Action Window > Tag > Right-click also show 'Bookmark' > Clear.
Does that help?
-
Not following you. The movie is played from a virtual drive and shows up in Drives and Devices. Files are .iso. Please clarify your previous post.
-
Also need to report that randomly movies stop for no apparent reason in the middle.
On that topic, is there a way to set movie to play back from last stop point?
-
Just sent 2 emails with log file on the movie stop issue.
-
Hey guys, it is now repeating itself on different movies. Will play for about 15 minutes and just stop. Just sent my third log to you. PLEASE HELP!!!

############## FOUND A PIECE TO THE PUZZLE ###########
Regarding the problem with movies stopping after 15 minutes or so...
I have been running 2 linked zones that I use to play .iso files from via virtual clone drive. The problem seems to only happen when I play a movie that contains a menu and if I do not select to play the movie and the menu stays up for more than like 10 or 15 minutes. When I select play within the menu on one zone the movie starts but in the other zone the movie is still in the menu. Is there a way to have the second zone controlled by the first zone so that when I select play in the menu it plays in both zones?
Furthermore, I'm going to assume stopping the playback if the menu stays up for 10 minutes or so is intentional... is that correct?
Thanks.
-
DVD playback over linked zones isn't supported.
The DVD stop is intentional when idle:
13.0.125 (02/18/2009)
NEW: DVD playback is automatically stopped after sitting at a menu with no keypresses for 15 minutes.
