Title: MC 16 and Olive4HD DLNA server
Post by: rouquemoute on July 07, 2011, 03:33:05 am
Hi all,

I'm a newbie here, so please don't fire at me if this question has been answered elsewhere.
I checked the FAQ but couldn't find anything useful for my problem.

I have an issue with MC16 accessing audio files from my Olive 4HD (http://www.olive.us/products/music_servers/olive4hd/overview.html).
The Olive4HD acts as a UpnP/DLNA media server on my home network. It has more than 700 albums (7000 FLAC encoded tracks) stored in it.

MC16 is able to see the Olive4HD as both an audio renderer and an DLNA audio library server.
However MC is only listing the first 64 tracks stored on the Olive, and not the entire audio library.
Those 64 visible tracks play fine on MC 16.
It's just that MC doesn't list all the files, as if there was a hard-coded limit (64 tracks) in the numbers of files the Olive4HD can share.

I tried with XMBC and it doesn't have any problems retrieving the entire library from the Olive.
From XMBC I can see all my albums and files.
So there has to be something in MC16 that's not right.

Is there a know issue in that regard?
Is there a way to force MC16 re-populate the audio library from the Olive4HD DLNA server content?

Thanks & Cheers,
Rouq

Welcome to the forum.  It may require one or more of the advanced settings in MC's DLNA.

Try using MC as the renderer until you get that going.  Just use the Olive as a server.

Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure I 100% got it.

I'm indeed trying to use the Olive as a server.
And MC16 indeed recognizes it as a DLNA media server.
But the problem is that MC16 isn't able to list all the albums and tracks that are on the Olive.
It lists only 64 tracks but there are more than 7000 tracks available!

What are the advanced DLNA settings that can be tweaked on MC16?
Is there a way to somehow force MC16 to re-visit the Olive audio content?

Thanks & Cheers,
Rouq

Is playback working on MC?  Or are you playing to the Olive?

For the 64 tracks that I can see, playback on MC works fine.

But enjoying 64 tracks on MC instead of 7000 is very frustrating.
I would love to browse my Olive tracks in MC and create playlists, etc.

Any ideas?

Even more frustrating is that I tried XMBC and it works fine.
XMBC can retrieve ALL albums and tracks from the Olive.

But I just prefer MC16 when it comes to managing my audio files.

Did you try running only DLNA on the Olive?

You mean disabling the renderer feature and only keep the DLNA server?
I don't believe user controls are that advanced on the Olive.

No.  You said you had set the Olive to do both UPnP and DLNA.  Try one or the other, not both.

There's no user control on such settings.

The user manual reads:
"Music stored on your Olive 4HD can be accessed in most
UPnP DLNA compatible software such as iTunes and
Windows Media Player. The Olive 4HD library will appear
as a separate music source in these software packages."

I'd guess it's a limitation of the olive.

We don't browse a library when we connect to it, we pull the entire table of contents using a search (1000 entries at a time) and build a local library from that.
My guess is that they cap searches at 64 for some reason.

If you want to do a wireshark capture of connecting to the library and email it to bob (at) jriver (dot) com, I'll take a look at it.

OK. A wireshark capture.

Got that. Thanks a lot.
I emailed Olive and asked them to fix their firmware.
