Title: Ripped DVD Playback - Portable Installation - Media Server
Post by: Mr ChriZ on July 07, 2011, 10:52:53 am
When using a Portable Installation as a Media Server it is not possible to playback ripped DVD's on a Media Center Client.

When attempting to play these VOB/IFO files that have "(Install Drive)" as part of the file path on a Media Center client the following message is displayed
"Media Center encountered errors whilst play the last several files.  Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location."

If the (Install Drive) is replaced with the drive letter on the portable server then it works correctly - however breaks the portable installation side of things.

Playing audio files work fine.

Tonights build has changed the message I get.
Now I get "Something went wrong with playback"

As there was some mention of DVD's in last nights logs I just thought I'd mention this issue remains the same.
Thanks,
Chris.

This should be an easy fix.  Please just bump this thread or post in the build thread if it doesn't get fixed next week.

Thanks.

This is working for me with 16.0.143 and newer.

We merged the DVD and video playback code (in testing now), and it's possible this is what fixed the issue.

A version with the merged code should be available publicly later this week.

Hi Matt,

Just tested again under 143 but still seeing the same.

I have two machines.  One Vista, One 7.  It doesn't matter which ones the server and which one is the client, the client won't play the Video TS VOB Files.
The server alway plays them with no problems however.

AVI files play fine across the same link.

Have your filenames got (Install Drive) in them?

There may be two issues here.

1) Playing on a portable install from (Install Drive): this should work and is what I tested
2) Playing a DVD from a Library Server: this doesn't work; the Microsoft DVD navigator doesn't work with URLs and there's currently no alternative :(

Ah sorry for some reason I thought that was possible on the standard install.

Looks like someone has had a go at an open source alternative.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dslibdvdnav/

I wonder if it will go anywhere!
