Title: Chinese CD Track Info retrieved from online db GARBLED
Post by: jacky on July 20, 2011, 11:38:21 pm
I used Media Centre 16 to rip albums written in chinese from the online CD database.

The album and artist shows "ллÄã иè+¾«Ñ"
How do I either add chinese fonts or there are setting in Media Centre to do the translation?
My operating system is Windows 7 pro 64 bit.

This should work without changing any settings.  Is it one disc or many?

Jim,

It does not work because the Chinese text in question is not encoded in UNICODE.  It uses a different encoding method specific to Chinese.  If you go to the menu of your browser, and click View > Character Encoding (or Text Encoding, or Encoding, depending on which browser you use), and select "Chinese Simplified (GB2312)", you will see the correct Chinese characters jacky posted.

jacky,

There no direct way (simply way) of getting that text displayed since MC uses only UNCODE encoding.  To show the text correctly, you will have to copy it out into a text file, open the text file in a browser, have the browser display it correctly (as I described above), then copy it back into MC.

That is also what I did with my Japanese music. But I have to say I never tried to retrieve info from an online db for those songs.
