I was adjusting some settings in Windows 7 and I made the mistake of associating JRiver Media Center 16 as the default for all file types it can open.
When I did this, it changed all the icons on my desktop to a Media Center icon and I couldn't do anything on my computer.
I was unable to do a system restore and I was unable to do any startup fixes.
I finally decided to uninstall Media Center 16, and the problems went away.
I tried to reinstall, and it again associated itself as the default for all file types it could open, rendering my computer useless.
Uninstalled it and everything is OK again.
How do I reinstall Media Center 16 so I won't continue to have these problems?

Please install the latest from here:

I believe this issue was fixed some time back.
Thanks.

Just tried to reinstall.
Same problems.
Had to uninstall immediately as my computer does not operate properly.
Anything else I can try?

If this is the problem of some data files (like .doc or .exe) getting associated with Media Center, you can fix it in Windows Control Panel.
Go to the path below and disable all associations for Media Center 16:
Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations

Hi Matt,
I currently have Media Center 16 uninstalled so there are no associations in the control panel.
I actually tried this when I had the program installed and it had Media Center 16 associated with over 150 files/programs.
However, when I tried to change the associations, it wouldn't let me do anything. Everything seemed unstable and the "windows" circle that shows activity on the computer never stopped.
I'm at a loss.
Is there such a thing as a cleaner that removes all Media Center references from the registry that might help.
Why would the program associate itself with all these file types after you uninstall and reinstall?

If you can run MC16, go to Tools/Options/Filetypes. Select all filetypes, by using Ctrl-Shift. Uncheck the "File Association" box below the list.
Or in Windows 7, click on Start, then search for "File Associations" and set them there.

Just tried to reinstall.
Just to be clear, which version of MC did you install when you say "reinstall"?
