SMF has its history in YaBB. After a split of YaBB into a PHP version, YaBBSE, YaBBSE was split and the SMF folks started down their own path.
(I used to run a bunch of customized YaBB boards for classes I taught and followed the YaBB lineage for a while.)
SMF 2.0 was released in June. I wonder if JR will update?

I did my time for a couple of years at a local college, for fun and to return something back to the community. I taught various computer science courses. And established the Linix/Unix curriculum there. My focus was generally in this area. I found the college to be ... glacial.
I'd forgotten - at someone's request, I'd re-posted my online Unix shell scripting course:

I had decommissioned my web, mail, ftp, etc. servers.
