Title: Copied files, views missing
Post by: gt93grad on August 09, 2011, 09:58:35 pm
I had to copy my files to a new computer, and I reimported the MP3 files.  I use the portable option.  But now my views are gone, even though I copied the exact same files back.  Where are they? How can I get them back?

Anyone?  Any thoughts?

The views are stored in the library.  Did you import only the mp3 files, or the library via File > Library > Import ?

What version of MC are you using?

In MC15 and 16, you can backup a library from one machine and restore it (with settings) to another.  The wiki has an article on "Moving Files" that would explain more.

Why a portable install?

I imported using File/Library/Import.  I used an external drive so that I can move the drive around, take it on vacation, etc.  If my laptop crashes, I still have MC and  my files.  So, how can I get those views back without having to recreate all of them?

Backup from one that is working.  Restore in the new location.

Yeah, I did.  Before I any changes, I copied the working entire MediaCenter directory to a backup drive.  After my changes, I copied it back, but the views still aren't there.
