I have been experimenting for the first time with this feature introduced in MC16. I searched for artist images through the whole music library, at the end only about 30% of the artist images were found.
I have to say that the artist field is populated as "Lastname, Firstname" instead of the more used "Firstname Lastname" pattern. I noticed that for example "Franz Joseph Haydn" was found, but not "Haydn, Franz Joseph". Is the "Firstname Lastname" pattern a requirement to get better results? Another reason could be that about 50% of my artists are classical composers not being stored in last.fm?
Is it correct that only one artist image can be applied or are multiple images of the same artist allowed?
Does this rule only apply to the artist field or can it be also used for other person fields such as composer, conductor etc.?
Thank you for helping!

I don't think Last.fm has great coverage for classical.
Also, it's picky about naming. Maybe the lookup feature should automatically reorder artist names with a comma in them? Or try a lookup both ways?
As for multiple images, it's not currently supported. While you browse in Theater View, the background slideshow can display multiple images (from Last.fm and other sources), but only one image can be the artist image shown in Media Center artist views.
