I don't know of a limit.  10 at least.  Probably 100.

Can you recommend a sound card with 12 outputs (6 stereo) to use with MC16 to stream to 6  different zones?

I don't know of one, but MC will let you use two sound cards to make up the channels... or onboard 5.1/7.1 for 3 or 4 stereo pairs respectively and an add-on sound card too.
