Hi All,
Just started with my new JRiver Media Center.
Got overwhelm by the funcationality and look.
Ok that's for intro.
now to get back to the question on wasap setting.
set my Audio output format to wasapi and DSP output format to 24 bits and 96khz.
however when playing a non 24bit/96khz file, a window pops out
"playback could not be started using tthe format 96000 Hz , 24 bits per sample formate.
this sample would work: 96khz, 16 bit bits per sample, 2 chs
would you like to have DSp studio > output formatting setting changed?"
Is this normal?
Wanted something that don't need me to fiddle with the setting
However, Kernel streaming output do not have problem if my audio out is set to 24 bit / 96 kHz.
But get irritated with the static noise when I pause or stop the playing. This noise kind of trail off and then it beom quiet.
Btw i am using pc on vista>usb>NFB2(audio-gd)>c2.1 (audio-gd)
Did i do something wrong? pls advise

Welcome to Interact. You can use the DSP Output feature to convert everything to 96Khz, 24bit.

Hm I thought I had already done it:
Audio output: wasapi
DSP output format : 24bits , 96000 hz
Is that what you mean JimH?
but still getting this window popping out? asking to change to 16 bit.

If you see that message, it means the hardware is failing when we try to open it for 24-bit output. The hardware simply may not support 24-bit input in a hardware-direct input mode.

Matt,
what hardware are you reffering to? PC.
my DAC is 24bit/196khz capable.
I use USB to my DAC.
However having said that...
when I run with Kernel Streaming, no issue except for the irritating static noise I get when I stop/pause the player.
So please advise.
thanks

You could try WASAPI Event Style, or 32-bit output, or the WASAPI option in Media Center that changes how 24-bit data is presented.
However, it's possible the DAC (or DAC driver) just won't accept 24-bit (or higher) WASAPI input. You might ask the maker of the DAC what they know about WASAPI support. Feel free to have them contact us.
This isn't a terribly common problem, as a lot of high-end DAC companies use Media Center with WASAPI as their reference software.
Thanks.

I use USB to my DAC.
The DAC (the chip set doing the DA conversion) might be 24/192 but WASAPI is about the properties of the USB receiver.
This is 16/48 max or 24/96 max most of the time.

yes, you are right Vincent.. it is 24/96 with usb.
funny thing it can play with KS, output is at 24/96 setting.
while ASIO, i m not getting any sound...still googling for help...
btw the DAC Im using is a budget entry from Audio-gd..NFB2..
it is using the Tenor TE7022 chipset
-
ASIO is a proprietary protocol.
If your hardware don’t support it, it won’t work.

whats the difference WASPI and WASPI EVENT please ?
in other programs WASPI works ok, but with JRiver MC - not that it matters with WASPI I get the sound overlaid with lots of static - which doesn't go even if you adjust
the buffer size. WASPI EVENT works fine though !
-
They are two different ways of talking to the sound device. Some devices won't work well with WASAPI.
-
seem like wasapi event works for me too.
Guess I can now stop testing with ASIO, WASAPI and KS..
thank all you guys
