Title: Please help!!! 1-2 seconds of static in ".dts" tracks before start.
Post by: bm_software on August 27, 2011, 12:15:53 pm
Hi everyone, I´m new to JRiver... I selected "wasapi" as "output source" & everything plays fine, except for my ".dts" tracks wich plays 1-2 seconds of static before start. Does anyone know why is this happening? Is there a solution? Greetings to everyone.

Welcome.

I checked it with my ONKYO 876 receiver and MC16 and it does too what you're describing. I did recall that it did. I guess it takes a little time to have the system change for the DTS settings. I haven't experimented long but it happens with my system too.
Do you have it with each track from a CD/list or just with the first track that plays DTS?
The problem I have with my ONKYO is that after playing DTS tracks I don't hear the "normal/regular" CD files anymore. I have to switch to another input and back.

I'd recommend letting your computer decode the DTS instead of bitstreaming it.

Try these settings:

Options - Audio:

Audio Output:
Output mode WASAPI Event Style
Output mode settings:
open device for exclusive access

settings
DSP: turn all DSP settings off
play silence at startup for h/w sync: 1 sec
plya files from memory YES

Track change:
switch tracks: standard gapped .5 sec
don't check "do not play silence or "use gapless"

Options - Video:
Bitstreaming: YES SPDIF (or HDMI)

One of the most important parameters to check is to make sure that you are NOT Cross Fading between tracks / albums. This is especially important if you are mixing PCM with DTS tracks! Try running with a 0.5 second gap as recommended by DMM.

As long as you aren't bitstreaming (my advice above), cross-fading and all other audio features will work fine.

I followed your settings but I have still the same problem: when I go from one DTS track back to a "regular" track I don't hear sound. That is when I double click on a thumb for an album. When I press stop/pauze and then go to another track/album it does work... The receiver switches to the right settings and back.

are you using the gizmo android app to control your client?  If so, MC16 I have found a problem supporting bitpefect playback when controlling the client via the gizmo.

No, not in this case. I have "Brothers in Arms" regular and DTS on my HD. When double clicking the DTS version it starts playing right. After I double click the regular version the ONKYO stays in DTS and I don't hear sound. I see from the spectrum analyzer MC16 is playing music.

When I pauze after the DTS and then double click the rugalar version the ONKYO switches back from DTS to stereo.

This was also the case in MC14 and it's not a big deal. When it happened I just switched from on output back to the PC input and it was working. The only thing that would be anoying is when I play at random and one DTS track would play. I guess the regular stereo tracks after that won't have sound. I guess it's just a tweaking problem.
