Power outages affect hundreds of thousands
More than 430,000 people were without power along the coast and as far inland as Wake, Durham and Orange counties.
I was lucky, we got some strong winds but most of the damage was east of where we live.

Glad to hear you guys are OK. We're still bracing for it, some 100 miles north of NYC.
I never understood why so many wires are on poles (and wooden poles at that). I'm talking about the local distribution not the big stuff. It may be most cost efficient solution but it's supposed to resist against what, woodpeckers? It looks like a 1910 solution for 2010-level of urban population.

I have to call my mom to see how she is, she lives in NJ.

there was a new report at the peak there was over 600,000 people without power.
right now there is still over 200,000 still without power.
My son lost power for about 24 hours.
