When I'm playing in a playlist, the little Display window at the left/bottom of the GUI will start playing a slideshow of all the different cover art images from various albums, instead of staying on just the cover art for the track/album I'm actually playing. If I right-click and choose Cover Art, it'll stay on the track's cover art/album, but as soon as I play another track, it goes right back to playing a slideshow of all the different cover art.
How can I make the Display window only display the cover art of the presently playing track, without me having to do it manually?

No one has the answer to this question? Not even a "No, it can't be done"?
-
Showing the currently playing album cover is how MC behaves for me. Are your coverart imported as images? If they are perhaps you are sending them to the playing now queue and therefore seing the slideshow?
-
Can you elaborate on the significance of importing cover art as images?
What I usually do, it go into a playlist and double-click on a track to start playing it. Sometimes I would jump over the Playing Now, and sometimes I'll stay inside the playlist.
-
If your coverart is imported the same way as photos, not just associated as coverart, then they might played as a slideshow. If you look at your playing now queue, are they listed there?
-
How do I "force" the cover art to be "only" associated to music files instead of being imported the same way as photos?
I always set specific folders to automatic import and to be watched for changes (that's how I imported the music into MC), and I don't use MC to view images and barely use it to watch videos--it's mainly a music librarian/player for me.
Also, are you saying that if my playlists excluded all cover art image files (for example, use smart playlist to exclude all images), I will no longer have this problem?
So, is there no way to stop the display window to automatically play a slideshow while music is playing and force it to only display the cover art of the track being played?

You're asking the wrong question. What you're looking for seems to be the default behaviour for the rest of us. You should be trying to figure out how you got it to display a slideshow. Then stop doing that. ;)
When you right-click to set the visualization to "cover art," what are you changing the setting from?

Hmm, good question. When I think back on what I see when I right-click, the Cover Art option isn't check-marked, so I know it's got to be on something else, and if I remember correctly, I probably have it on Track Info/Noir. But that doesn't explain why the automatic slideshow.
Strangest thing though--today, when I saw your post and opened up MC to check, it started behaving NORMALLY for the first time in all the years I've used MC. How in the world??? It makes no sense at all. For years I've tried to get it to behave normally, starting from around version 10 or so (if I remember correctly), and now if finally does, but I don't remember having done anything differently than before.
It's one of those mysteries I'll never solve, I guess. . ..
Thanks for your comments though.

FYI - I had been experiencing this very same problem. It seemed to be a glitch in the Display functionality - started happening with a recent program update, don't know when, and now is not happening, perhaps with another update. On .176 right now.

Had the problem reappear today and was able to repeat the problem as well as do something where it does not occur.
It appears isolated to playback of audio from the predefined playlists: recently imported and recently played.
When I play a song from there, it defaults to Image view. I can switch to Cover Art view and its fine, but if i stop and play a new song from that folder, it switches to an image.
However, the problem does not happen with my own playlists. Any time i switch to those two lists, it defaults to an image.
