Title: how do i rate a whole album?

Hi -- old question which I know had been asked years ago, but I came back to revisit this and can't find it in the forums -- is there any way to rate the current album you're listening to, without going into the tagging action window, and if not, why not? Rating single songs is tedious. Going into tagging action window, highlighting the current album, and then assigning a rating is also tedious.

There is no way to do this now, out of box. As Album rating does not exist.

You can however added a custom field for this, to set album rating with one click. It can be relational, so you have one value for one album. You can also set this field as Stars rating type, and you'll be able to just hit the number of stars to set it for the whole album.

Send a replay here if there are some steps that prove difficult. All you should need is in Options - Library & Folders - Manage Library Fields.

Thanks Haugen! Worked great. Is it possible to assign my new album ratings field ratings to a series of shortcut keys or reassign the existing ratings shortcut keys to the new album ratings field?

I have my doubts. If it's possible, you might have to do some manual editing in some files? I did not find any files with such info when I searched though. And even if you did, I do not believe that you'll be able to specify the Library Field. Just some wild guesses from me. Perhaps others have some more knowledge of the subject.

I do my album ratings offline - dump the entire db in an mpl file - perl script munges the ratings and populates a user field 'album rating' and then I reimport the mpl file to populate MC.  I do it once a week.  Not ideal, but it is a solution.

That sounds like a LOT of work, instead of just clicking once on each albums rating in MC?
