Title: Dual soundcards

Is this possible?
I've read that this is possible, and I tried reading up how zones work, but I really want to make sure before I spend $600 on a the soundcard I want.

My Nvidia motherboard has built-in HDMI output.  That is what I currently use to play 2-channel music and to play multi-channel audio for movies.
I want to buy an RME soundcard for music.

Is it possible to keep the Nvidia HDMI as the default output, but also send 2-channel audio via the RME soundcard?

Zones allow you to address two sound cards (or more).
