Title: Remote Green Button
Post by: pauly139 on October 01, 2011, 03:42:23 am
I can't find the option to assign the green button on my remote to start MC16 - anyone tell me where it is now?

Thx
Paul

You'll need to run Media Server (Options > Startup > Run on Windows Startup > Media server).

If the Green Button is opening WMC, you can prevent that by changing a setting in MC.

Tools/Options/Theater View/Behavior/Disable Windows Media Center.

Thanks - however I have MC Server running, and have the checkbox set to stop WMC starting, and MC16 still does not start up when pressing the Green remote button. Any suggestions where to look for the problem?

Paul.

Is there no fix for this? I am running Media Centre Server, WMC is not installed, and the Green Remote button has no effect. I understood it should start MC16 if the MC server was running.

If Media Server is running, MC should start.  What happens?  No effect?

You should not need to assign the button.  It should work with any Media Center remote.

What remote is it?

Can you make it work with WMC?

Hi Jim - the remote does work fine with both WMC and MC16. The only thing it doesn't do is start MC16 with the Green button. There is no effect when I press it. The odd thing is that it did work a month or so ago. Since that time I have installed and uninstalled WMC a few times. So I suspect it is just a configuration issue. Would there be any point in uninstalling and reinstalling MC16?

Does the Green Button start WMC?  Or can you make it do that?

What remote is it?

Yes, uninstalling and reinstalling the latest build from our site would be worth trying.

The green button used to start WMC, but I have uninstalled it.

I'll uninstall and reinstall MC16 and see how that goes.

I can't see a brandname on the remote - however I remember all used to work well a few months back with the green button, and all other remote functions work well at the moment.

You might see if you can borrow another remote.  It's possible the button is bad.

These settings don't always work with MC16.

My green button works perfectly to start Windows Media Center.  However, if I configure MC16 to run Media Server at startup as Matt suggested, and also configured MC16 to disable Windows Media Center, the green button will still NOT start MC16.  Pressing the green button basically has no effect - the pointer flashes to the "busy ring" for an instant, and then nothing.

This is with Win7x64.

If I uncheck the "disable windows media center" box, my green button still works to launch WMC.

So I feel your pain Pauly.  I've never gotten the green button to launch MC16.

I wonder if some security program is preventing MC from running.  Try turning off UAC, just to test.

UAC was already switched off, so can't be that. The Green Button works fine with WMC, so it isn't the remote.

My UAC is off as well.

Glad to say I have fixed my problem. Under Options/Remote Control/Devices & Options I ticked on 'Microsoft MCE' and all now works. Previously only 'Remote, keyboard, gamepad or other 'HID' was ticked on.

Well, I guess I'm by myself then.  I always had "Microsoft MCE" turned on.  I also had "remote, keyboard, etc..." turned on.

Turning off the 2nd and leaving only Micorsoft MCE turned on did not fix the problem for me.
