Title: DVD folder not playing
Post by: Sarane on October 03, 2011, 11:04:51 am
Curiously, my old DVD folders are playing but my recent ones are not.

Few pointers:

A - I have the .179 version

B - Log says :

===
0004250: 2904: Playback: DShowVideoGraph::Render: Start
0004250: 2904: Playback: DShowVideoGraph::ConnectSourceAndSplitter: Start
0004266: 2904: Playback: DShowVideoGraph::ConnectSourceAndSplitter: Failed to open or parse file.  (hr=0x80004005)
0004266: 2904: Playback: DShowVideoGraph::ConnectSourceAndSplitter: Finish (16 ms)
0004266: 2904: Playback: DShowVideoGraph::Render: Error: source / splitter did not expose output pins.
===

C - Doesn't matter Red October or Merit. (Merit gives a slightly different error)

D - When I drop an old folder in "Playing now" I get a filetype:  ifo,  when I drop a new folder, I get filetype: dvd

E - Works on MPC - HC

Issue has been going on for a few weeks now.  I though my rips were not good, but reripping them didn't help.

Did you change what you're ripping them with?  Or how you're doing it?

Have you compared folders of what works and what doesn't?

I use a wide range of tools and keep trying new ones. However this hasn't changed. :-)

I tried to compare ifo file, but in my inexperienced eyes they appear quite similar.

Biggest difference is the "Filetype"   ifo / dvd

Also, changing the extension to mpg works.

If you go to Tools>Options>File Types and highlight "DVD Video (if, vob)" do you have palyback method set to Automatic and File Association set to Yes?

Yep.

Did your DVDs used to play - then one of the updates broke something" If so, you may want to try installing an older version of MC. Maybe you can figure out what upgrade changed your playback. If you narrow down when the problem started it might help JRiver identify the problem.

If you would like to send a copy of the file/folder (the problem DVD), I have an FTP site you could upload to. Of course JRiver would need to be willing to look at the file. PM me if you want to do this.

Just tried to have MC play a DVD from the drive.

It displayed a message like "Adding required components" then froze.

Restarted MC, and if I try to play DVD from drive, it freezes

?

Never had any issues before.

Try rebooting.

Just rebooted. No change.  I will try to reinstall latest release.

Out of panic mode.  AnyDVD wasn't running.

Well, the reboot and the reinstall didn't fix the initial issue "DVD folder not playing."

Additional info:

The problem occurs when I go in File >> Quick Play >> Explorer >> DVD Folder.

If the folder is in the library the symptoms are different. I get the DVD menu but cannot interact with it. However I can use the "Jump to" function to access the various chapters.
