Title: How do I turn off automatic updates?
Post by: smjepsen on October 03, 2011, 08:24:31 pm
How do I turn off automatic updates?

The last 2 times I've started Media Center, it had to "uncompress" and install what appeared to be updates. I have no interest in updates at this time. I am perfectly happy with what I have now.

I've gone though the menus, trying Tools -> Options -> General, etc., but cannot find it. I've also searched this forum and was unable to find a past posting on this (though there must have been one).

Thanks.

SJ

I tried to find your license to see what version you have, but couldn't.  Could you post part of the email address you used to register?

Thanks.

I just set up a new account because my older forum account stopped working.

Thanks.

In v16, explore Help > Update Channels.  There's a little more here:

In general, there's no reason to be afraid of upgrades when you're on 'Stable'.  Stable updates are well tested and contain important bug and security fixes.

Okay, I'll read up on this.

As I mentioned, the last 2 times I've started Media Center I had to watch it go through an update routine. I guess when I want to listen to music, I'd rather not have to go through this. So is there a way to turn this off?

Hah. I should have followed those instructions before my last reply.

To disable automatic updates, choose "Help -> Update Channels -> Disable Automatic Update (not recommended)." Apparently this is not recommended for security reasons, but I wanted to close this post.
