Title: DVD Playback Failure
Post by: bunglemebaby on October 13, 2011, 04:38:05 pm
I'm trying to play a couple DVD's with Media Center setup using Red October Standard. I get an error that says:
"Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed. Can't playback this DVD-Video disc."
What can I do to remedy this? I haven't seen a copy protection error in ages...

Other possibly pertinent details:
- WMC and WMP are both disabled/uninstalled (I'm on W7)
- One of the discs is very unlikely to have any copy protection on it, as it's just a cheap "making of" bonus disc that came with a CD.
- VLC manages to playback the DVD's relatively well (though I get glitches oddly, but I don't think that's pertinent to this discussion.)
- A couple days ago, attempted DVD playback was hard crashing MC. It was not set to RO-std then, but I don't remember what settings I had then and haven't been able to replicate it with my feeble doodling (yay scientific process...  ::) ).

I'm fairly clueless when it comes to DVD playback options/codecs/what-have-you, so any tips (starting from the beginning) would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

The DVD navigator from Microsoft can throw this error in some cases, although I don't know why.

A reboot has always fixed it when I've seen it.

Worked like a charm. Thanks Matt.
