Woke up this morning & woke laptop from sleep mode as usual. JRiver appears to have lost some of my settings! Version 15.0.174 (not recently updated).
All the music is still there fine - the modified skin is the same - and the items which I had removed from the main tree (e.g. images) are still removed.
However - under the "audio" node, all the custom nodes which I had created are gone! I am left with the nodes albums, artists, files, genres, panes, recent albums, 3D albums and connected media. I had made loads of specialised nodes such as albums added by month, compilations by title, compilations by genre, specialised genres, etc etc!
Also - and perhaps even worse - it seems that some of the tags have disappeared - specifically, the "style" tags which I had spent hours updating recently! When I look at the style tags now, they are all empty! I don't understand how this can happen. I had changed the "genre" tags at the same time, and these OK, i.e. still the same.
Just restarted the laptop - no difference. The files seem to play OK.
Any help greatly appreciated !

Try restoring a backup. MC makes them automatically.

I don't think that MC does automatic backups for libraries other than the default library.
When I add new material to my permanent library (not the default library), I execute the library backup command in MC and then do an incremental backup of the music files and the library backup file. Takes about 2 minutes for a 700 GB music collection.

Thanks very much - the backup worked!
Any ideas why JRiver reset my settings in the first place? Including the "style" field of the ID3 tag?
