Title: Framerate Question
Post by: AVTechMan on October 17, 2011, 03:25:50 pm
I have a question regarding the framerate....when playing back film based material I get the stuttering but the audio pretty much is fine. I have the display in MC set to change the framerate to 24Hz (which my TV supports) for 23.97 material and of course 60 for 59.97 and 29.97 based stuff. With HWA checked, LAV CUVID does appear when I checked the filters.

Funny thing is, last night when I was playing this same file (and the Matrix) the motion was smooth as it should've been. Now its stuttering and knowing I haven't changed any settings, I pulled up the MadVR OSD.

Apologize if the image is somewhat large since if I reduced the resolution the OSD would be hard to see but I noticed that under 'Composition Rate' it says 30Hz. I think that's where the problem is.

Does anyone have any idea on what may be the cause and possible way to fix (other than switching to display at 60Hz)?

Go to Standard View and see what the "fps" tag has listed for this movie. It may be incorrect. Fortunately it is easy to correct.

Okay i will check when i get home from work in the morning. You can change the fps in the standard  view? May seem like a dumb question but where would you change the fps setting? I think mine was listed as 23.98, don't remember off hand.

EDIT: I figured out how to change the value in the FPS setting, and changed it to 23.97. But the movie still stutters though. When I change the display setting to 60Hz or uncheck the 'Enable Auto Display Change' it plays fine. But what's weird was last night the movies played fine when the TV was switched to 24Hz. I don't know, maybe I will just leave it at 60Hz....quality is still stellar with MadVR and LAV CUVID.

Does MadVR switch to 'exclusive' when you start playing ? Otherwise you have to change the MadVR settings to start in exclusive mode.

It didn't at first....I didn't have that option checked. I now checked that box in the MadVR settings and its running smooth now in 24Hz. The OSD now says 'fullscreen exclusive mode'. Awesome!
