Title: Read only media folder
Post by: Captor on October 18, 2011, 01:50:55 pm
Hi
My media folder were all the music files (flac) is locked to read only. When I unmark that and close down and open up again it is still read only.
Is there a way to come around this?
This is the only folder on my harddrive that is a read only folder. Does this comes with JRiver?
I have Windows 7 Ultimate and the latest JRiver update. Or almost.

I also would like to ask what folder I should backup in order to be safe against unwanted accidents?
Except the media folder above of course.

Thanks in advance

It is a Windows 'feature'. Sometimes when a new Windows 7 inherits a harddisk with files on it, it treats the files as if an unknown user owns them. Therefore they are made read-only. The trick here is to regain ownership.

Have a look in this detailed article:

Thank you, Michael
The funny thing here is that I can still edit the files. For example move them or change name on my Flac-files. So maybe it does not matter if they are read only or not?
But when looking on the folders in explorer there is a lock on the folder.
