MC17 is great. Is there a way to play back native DSD without converting to PCM? I couldn't find an option to keep the DSD stream in DSD format. My DAC shows the signal stream as 24/352.8 PCM instead of DSD.
Thanks!

DSD should work now when using ASIO. It was added a few builds ago. It may not work with all new devices. What do you have?
-
Playback Designs MPD-5 DAC. I am using their ASIO driver in MC17. But the stream is showing as 24/352.8 instead of DSD at the DAC.
-
I believe that's the one we've been working with. Same company.
Did you explore the ASIO options?
-
It appears the only ASIO option that might affect this is channel offset, but only 0 offset seems to work with the driver. Are there certain ASIO options that you would suggest changing?
ASIO info during startup:
Device: AKDesign USB ASIO (0 channel shift)
Buffer Type: 18 (7056 samples)
Output Format: 352800 kHz - 2 channels
Post Output Ready: 0
ASIOStart Return Value: 0 (should be 0)
Plugin Open Return Value: 0 (should be 0)
Buffer 0 Pointer: 84082688
Seems like it's defaulting to 352800 kHz output format.
-
Are you looking at the options in MC under Audio?
-
You need to enable bitstreaming of DSD under Options > Video > Bitstreaming > Custom > DSD
(it's a video option because bitstreaming has always been video-specific up until now)
-
That worked. Awesome. Thank you. Playing native DSD now.
-
I also have a Playback Designs DAC. Will JRiver do DSD128 as well?
-
DSD 128 (2X) is fully supported, including bitstreaming with ASIO.

So correct me if am wrong. The DSD feature only works with ASIO and not with WASAPI or WASAPI Event Style?
-
Bitstreaming DSD requires ASIO.
Playback of DSD as high sample rate PCM works with WASAPI, ASIO, or any other audio output.
-
Playback of DSD ...
And what about playback of SACD ISO?
-
Is it possible to introduce the same functionality as a plugin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/files/) from foobar2000:

I downloaded a ripped sacd iso. the iso plays perfectly on foobar2000. Splitting to dff files is done using scarletbook utility. for "kind of blue" it was piece-of-cake. MC17 imported the files to the library and played with no issues. however, when playing to Teralink X2, using "source bitdepth" and limiting bitrate to 96K, the driver's UI showed 16/96. only by forcing 24bits depth output I got 24/96. this does not happen with native 24/96 material. the more bothering issue came with "selling England by the pound" iso, this time using another computer equipped with WaveTerminal 192L sound card. again, foobar2000 played both iso and dff files. MC17 refused to recognize the files; if I was trying to play one, it played the last active track instead, not to mention loading the tracks into the library.
What can be the cause for both issues? I'm using 17.0.27.
-
since this is important to me and no help came from this thread, I kept looking for solution. I opened the non-playable dff files with hex editor and realized they are coded in dst and not dsd. scarletbook.exe utility has a mode that uncompress the dst into dsd. now MC17 does load and play the files. it is a pity since the dsd format consumes 2.5 times more space in this case, but at least I can listen.

I've added a source of DSD files and an article on ripping SACD's on old PS3's to our wiki article on DSD.

I know this is a very evolving area, but I think the thing now is to synch with the DCS .dff format. I can't tell based on what is above - is that the DCS .dff playback format?
Right now the DCS Puccini and Mytek stereo DAC will play that back properly if I understand right. I'm hopefully on a path to get the Mytek, which at 1450 is 3 - 7 times less money than the other .dff playback DAC options.

The Mytek offering totally changes the landscape for .dff file playback.

i am so keen for reviews! such a low price given the specs of this thing.

Is JRiver looking into, or has it been able to get ASIO DSD to work with the new Mytek stereo192 DSD DAC?
I'm about to receive one of these Mytek DACs and what I gather is only HQplayer will work with this DAC playingback DSD stuff.

It's worth a try.

It's worth a try.
if you guys work it out, would make some very happy.

Hi all,
Just adding my voice to the clamor for properly designed DSD playback on the Mytek DSD DAC. The DAC sounds amazing through my trial version of JRiver 17 on PCM. DSD through another program on Windows, HQPlayer, sounds amazing but that program is lacking in library management and other features.
I've tried every way to get bitstreaming working with the Mytek but this is a no-go so far, like others' experiences.
Will not purchase the full version of JRiver until this is worked out!

Received this today from Blue Coast Records:
"Well, it's not QUITE April Fool's Day, but I decided to be kinda foolish and put The Collection up for sale to our fanbase of 11,600 members for $0.10 and drive some people to DSD-Guide.com
http://dsd-guide.com/ "
-
Wow! Got the whole album in both DSD and PCM 24-96 for $0.20 ! 8)
Thank you very much for the info !
I see in the above download the WAV files are almost the same size as DFF files.
For WAV files I can compress it using FLAC. What about DFF files? I could compress it using DST but will MC play DFF DST compressed files?
I also wonder what file format to choose for my MyTek playback. DFF or DSF ?
DSF is suggested as supporting metadata natively. I see DFF as a download option on many sites.
I am about to build my DSD library and want to choose right format. I will have FLAC for PCM and something (yet to decide if DFF or DSF) for DSD.
I want to use custom tags like "Mastering". I can see it easily be written into FLAC file as "MASTERING" tag. I am not sure about DFF or DST. Do they use Id3 tags? Does Id3 support custom tags? How would be "Mastering" written to them? Can it be then edited by mp3tag (provided it will support these files in the future) ?

Edit:
Do you plan to support SACD ISO playback (similar to Foobar plugin) in native DSD mode?
-
Can hdmi be used for asio? Or limited only to wasapi event style?
-
Yes. If the device supports it.
-
Great will try it asap
-
Tried hdmi asio it can't detect my lumagen. My lumagen is acting as an input switcher going to the ADS SSP. any suggestions?
-
You would need an ASIO driver from the manufacturer, if such a driver exists.
