Title: GPU Usage Question
Post by: AVTechMan on October 24, 2011, 02:52:19 am
Ok so far I am playing back some 1080p/24 clips (BD movies) and some H.264 format based clips to test the GPU load to see if its doing its job. I have them running MadVR+LAV CUVID and so far according to GPU-Z the Video Engine Load has been at around 40-50% while the GPU Load stays pretty much near 0%, sometimes spikes to 10%.

CPU usage has stayed under 10% which is good. H.264 content used to choke on my laptop always pegging near 100%.

So help me understand reading GPU-Z.....does the Video Engine Load indicate that the CUVID is being used and that the hardware decoding is taking place in the video card? Or does the GPU Load indicate it? If so that's pretty good which means the card is doing its job.

Try nvidiainspector.  It shows you GPU Load but more importantly for LAV CUVID it shows VPU which is what is used and also the P-State (power state).  I find on mine if it toggles between P8 and P0 I'll drop frames
