Title: Help with iPod/iTouch
Post by: windrockwater on November 01, 2011, 09:49:59 am
So I finally installed a sweet new head unit in my car that has an Ipod connector.  Using MC16, my first generation 4gb Nano works great.  Really great.  My MC library is entirely FLAC files. So i can make playlists in MC, then sync to the Nano and it transcodes on the fly to MP3 format directly to the Nano.  Hooray! No need for a entirely separate MP3 library!

But here is the problem. 4gb is tiny. So I am trying my first generation iTouch cause it has 32 GB. But MC will not recognize it.

So two questions.

1) Can i get MC to recognize the 1st Gen iTouch? I have iTunes installed (hate it so much).  I am trying to avoid having to maintain a completely seperate MP3 library and want to only transcode as needed.

2) My second question is that I want to get a 160 gb iPod Classic for this purpose. But i am reluctant to shell out the clams for it if MC wont work with it.  I am eye-ing some 6th and 7th gen classics on Ebay...Any advice on getting a 160gb iPod that will show up in MC?  I will cry if I buy one only to open MC and find out it doesn't show up under 'devices'.

Can anyone help me with the 2 questions?

Only with playlists via the file->export to itunes and iphone function. Read more here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=67048.0

All classics should work just like your nano. The classics don't use an encrypted database. See here:

I would like to use my iTouch as a remote to control MC.  Is Gizmo the app that I need to download?  Is there a better app out there?  How do I access Gizmo or alternatives?  Thanks.

There isn't a Gizmo for iOS at this time.
There are two alternatives, a full functioned DLNA controller/renderer like PlugPlayer or the MyRiver app which is a remote control for MC.

Look through this, especially the last two posts:

Old thread, so please move to where it might be seen.   I converted all my music files, originally ripped to itunes, to media center files.  The problem now is that i can't copy individual albums to my new ipod touch 5.   Actually, is there a way I can reconvert all my files back to non-mediacenter files (that is, back to whatever they were when i first ripped them through Apple Lossless), so that I can start moving them to my ipod?   There has to be an easy way to do this, short of creating new folders for each and everyone of my 1000s of files.  I am totally at a loss here.

Thanks.

What format did you convert the files to?
MC handles ALAC (Apple Lossless) files directly so you shouldn't have needed to convert the files.

I have a similar situation where I use MediaCenter and iTunes with the same files so I can use iTunes to copy the files to an iPhone. I just tell MediaCenter and iTunes where the files are stored, I don't try to keep multiple copies of them.
