Title: Midi in MC 16 & 17
Post by: Lou Busch on November 03, 2011, 07:23:01 pm
I am on MC 13.  Finally decided to upgrade.  I installed both 16 & 17.  I imported my MC 13 library.  That seemed to go OK, all my files are there.  When I try to play a midi file, I get a message that "Something went wrong with playback"  and I may not have direct show filters installed.  This worked out of the box in MC 13 and I can't seem to find the correct plugin or "filter" to install.  Anyone figured this out.  (MP3 works fine).
Thanks

It's a known issue.  MIDI is tricky, since it can't use the audio engine (the data isn't PCM).

If it's important to you, we can try to get it working.

Thanks for upgrading.

I have heaps of old midi files. It's definitely not the end of the world if MC lost support, but a lot of these have nostalgic value to me :-[

Coming in 17.0.29 and newer:
Fixed: MIDI playback was not working.

We'll roll the fix back to v16 if it holds up to testing.

Thanks.

Thanks.  It IS important to me, as MC is my primary organizational tool for these files.

I have thousands of midi files and listen to them frequently.  I run them thru an external midi synthesizer (Sound Canvas) or in software via SoundFonts.  A while back I switched to another program (which is why I'm still on MC 13) because that program allowed me to use SoundFonts in addition to my hardware synth.  Recently I decided to invest some time in cataloging the files, and  Media Center's more robust import and naming functions got me using MC again.  I saw the upgrade e-mail and decided to take a look.  I hoped you might even have added SoundFont support.  Imagine my surprise when NO midi files would play.

Looking forward to the fixed version.

Hi,
So i have successfully used MC with a soundfont with the excellent soft virtual midi synth and quicktime at device output then générale midi in options of quicktime like described here:

But it 'll be awesome to have native support of soundfonts.
