Title: MC17 weather problems
Post by: Richee on November 06, 2011, 06:40:37 pm
Have current version 17.0.27 and only weather site that
works in Theater view is google.
Weather.com just says error and NOAA does nothing.
If I use a browser I can go to either site.

weather.com is changing their business model.  Their old interface may not work now.  NOAA should in the U.S.

I am in the USA and NOAA does not work.
It shows the display name and says not configured.
I have tried a number of USA 5 digit zip codes and
none work.

I just tried and it works, but I'm using a build a couple ahead of you.  Just wait a few days and try again.

Hello Jim,
I just tried NOAA again with MC 17.0.31 and still
a no go.
I configured zip 60290 in Chicago.
When I select Chicago from list it shows the name
and underneath says:
Not Configured
(use Configure button)

I looked in the log file but it was pretty much Greek to me.
Not sure if that would show in there anyway.

Maybe some other people could chime in to see if anyone else
is having issues.
 ;)

It's not a big problem since Google works but I'd like to figure out
what is causing the problem since it works on your computer.

I am connected to internet thru a router if that might be an issue.
I did add NOAA site to bar whith Wiki, YouTube, etc and it does open the web
site.

I'm happy to send you a log file if that would help.

I can see the problem.  We'll fix it soon.

Apparently NOAA doesn't understand all zip codes.  For example, here you can see they can't find a latitude and longitude for 60290:
http://graphical.weather.gov/xml/sample_products/browser_interface/ndfdXMLclient.php?listZipCodeList=60290

I'm still brainstorming, but we may have to switch to picking from a list of cities + states.

I can't find 60290 in this zip code database either:
http://zips.sourceforge.net/

Is it new?  Maybe you could try a few nearby zip codes?

Matt,
The zip I used was 1 of dozens I tried. I even tried
some local Arizona zips with no success.

At NOAA web site I tried zip 85051, 85017. They
both work on web page but not in Media Center.
Also tried 60601 in Chicago.

Looks like NOAA does not recognize 60290

USPS says:
CHICAGO IL 60290
This is a UNIQUE ZIP Code™ used for a specific company or organization

The point is, every zip I tried with NOAA in MC17 came up as not configured.

I like the idea of choosing city, st as opposed to zip. I believe most people are looking for weather in a City, St. I don't normally associate zip with city, st unless
I am sending a letter in the mail.

Looks like MC 17.0.33 is the magic number.
NOAA now works for theaterview weather.

Thanks! Now back to the music.
And thanks for the constant improving of
an already great program.
