Title: stability, Gizmo
Post by: michael123 on November 07, 2011, 02:15:39 pm
1) I installed few days ago V17, and it got frozen couple of times.
I waited long enough (4-5 minutes) and then I needed to kill it from the task manager.
My library is quite big (few terrabytes) and is located on a Linux-flavor NAS (Lime unRAID)

2) Gizmo did not display any graphics. Not a single icon, but rather some "generic" one. I have HTC Flyer tablet

3) Is it possible to navigate video files by disc folder structure?

thanks,

Test with a local library in order to learn whether the NAS is a factor.

Update Gizmo from the market.  If your device cannot access the Market, you can use your phone's browser to download Gizmo here: http://www.jriver.com/install_gizmo.html

Also, build all thumbnails on the server machine.  Gizmo uses them.

Options > Tree & View > Thumbnails... (or configure auto-import to build thumbnails)

I cannot test locally since we're talking about 7 TB of audio & video.

It is up-to-date.

Any ideas?

I did,
the issue is how much time shall I wait until all these can be built. Any indication?
There are probably about 30,000 audio/video files

If you run it manually from Options > Tree & View, the Action Window in the lower left of the program will display progress.

Test a portion locally.  NAS drives don't always work.

Well,
I did not see anything.

But I can say that at least twice MC17 stuck when I clicked on 'OK' inside the Options dialog (I was on the media network item), trying to dismiss it..

This does not help me,
either MC can play it or not.

Every year I try it and pass on, MC14 just crashed on it, but then my library was smaller..

I use Squeeze for my audio, I thought of buying MC for the video files..

How can I help you to troubleshoot it?

P.S. What about the navigation? Is it possible to navigate by folder structure in Gizmo?

You've got 7TB of movies, but after 5 minutes, you killed MC.

Test locally to see what happens.

I do not have 7TB of local storage,
the maximum I can test locally is around 700MB.
Is it OK?
Do you want me to test smaller files? blu-ray rips?

It's better than nothing.  A sampling of all the files you have would be good.

I have 35TB of mostly video on an unraid server too. MC17 has been unstable for me too - with long pauses between changing views, or outright hangs. These are not consistent, however, so I haven't figured out when they're most likely to occur. MC16 was like this at first, but then the majority of the builds were very stable.
Tonight, when tagging, I'd switch from say Media type = TV show to Movies in a panes view... would then have to read some forums or something while MC did its thing, returning after multiple minutes. During that time it was even impossible to switch to MC using the task bar.  :'(

Please email me a log right after it's slow like that.  It's probably the new file system manager, and the log should indicate why.

Thanks.

Where is it located?

I just finished my unRAID server, and can confirm this behavior also.  I will turn on logging and send one when I get home tonight.

thanks

Than ks, Matt. I'll do this tonight. Or, if I get time do a remote login from work to recreate it. I wanted to do some more detective work first, but if you suspect the culprit may show up in the log, I'll do it ASAP.

I suggest you both send Matt your log files of your hangups.  He found some files and a folder in my log that don't actually exist in my library, which is what was (at least partially) causing my issues.  It's not resolved yet, but some more logs might help us all "fix" this problem we all seem to be suffering from.
