Title: How is "quality" measured? (digital -secure)
Post by: noborg on May 21, 2002, 07:58:39 am
After ripping in digital-secure the "Secure Rip Report" popup displays an overall quality as well as info on what re-reads were necessary.  For example:

 Track 7: Completed Ok - Quality 99.88%
00:26.24 2 re-reads required to get good data
00:26.35 2 re-reads required to get good data

What is the definition of "Quality"?   Given that this is digital-secure, I have been assuming that there's 100% accuracy in getting the bits from the CD (I use APE exclusively, btw).  Does the 99.88% perhaps refer to the overall percentage of good reads (including the bad ones that had to be redone)?

Hi noborg,

I think you're on the right track. If % quality has the same meaning in MJ8
as in EAC, it is simply a measure of the number of re-reads that was necessary
to get all the data: 100% quality should then mean no re-reads were necessary.

Maybe someone from JRiver will coment on that.

Have a good day

Yes, that's it. The ratio of minimum number of re-reads to the actual number of re-reads. The next build will have this short explanation in the log file (and on the log dialog).
