Title: Small Delay on Blu-ray Subtitle
Post by: Symus35 on November 12, 2011, 08:01:00 am
Hi,

i've noticed a small delay in the appearance of Subtitle, watching blu-rays

Most of the time it's not a big deal.

but sometime, when lines are going fast it can produce a lack of sync between what we hear and what we read.

i'm using Red october HQ with HA on ( Madvr+ Lav Cuvid)

It seems, with RO standard ( no mad vr) it does not occur

it happens with MC 16 ( last version) and 17 last version.

does anyone have the same issue?

it there something wrong with mad vr and Subtitle ? (very good quality though)

thanks !

We're aware of a similar problem right now.  There is another thread on the MC17 board.

madVR does buffering, so that overlays (subtitles, on screen display, etc.) don't appear for a few frames.

At 24 Hz, the delay can be especially bothersome.

You can right-click while playing, pick Directshow Filters > madVR, and configure the amount of buffering.  However, using less buffering could lead to frame drops.

i can try that.

J.river is such a brilliant piece of software... PQ and AQ just unbeatable. if it would support Java menus with BD, and Madvr with DVD, i think we could kiss TMT or Powerdvd Goodbye.

I use J.river because i want the best (regarding to my hardware limitations of course), so this subtitle problem is the little thing that remains, before playback is Perfect.

so, i tried this:

under Mad Vr

rendering/exclusive mode Settings

How many video frames shall be presented in advance :

switch from 4 to 10.

Subtitles seems to appear with the right timing now.

i wonder why it does not with a smaller amount . could this be due to my hardware limitation?

is it okay to let this setting?

when i do  CRTL+J i see many dropped frames, when i do CTRL+R, dropped frames remains to zero.

( im using a VGA monitor at 60 htz)

EDIT: After multiple testing, it seems  that there's still a problem.

i will do more testing.
