Hi, I'm trying out JRiver Mediacenter after some recommendations on the web.
I have a library of albums ripped to flac and for each album there is a checksum file included.
for this reason I want to setup MC so that it wont edit any tags unless i specifically want too (altho i prefer to simply use tag n rename).
I tried setting permissions but that didnt work (and would be a hassle if it did, 6 minutes to complete)
How would I prevent any tag changes?

Welcome.
Tools/Options/General/Importing and Tagging. Uncheck "Update tags when file info changes".
-
thanks for your quick reply.
I had already found and checked that one ;D
this being set, are there any other actions that could modify the tags?
since I'm more a trial and error kinda learning person it might be handy to know before hand
-
Uncheck it.

doh :-X that is what I meant to say.
thanks for your time, I will continue exploring the program and options now.

I will continue in this thread to prevent clutter
trying to figure out why some albums display cover art (even when no art was present in file or directory.
but most don show anything
I tried selecting all albums in album view and:
Cover Art > quick find in File / Cover Art Directory
result
(http://i.imgur.com/1U30B.png)
just to be sure, I dont want to edit any tags , just want to import existing cover art or find new ones and add it to the folder the album is in.
what does the message actually mean?
does it want to edit the tags if the files or does it simply asks to change the library data?
thanks in advance
also what could be the reason some albums have displayed cover art but most don't?

Look in Tools > Options > File Location > Cover Art and see if "Also store image in file's tag" is checked. If so, the image is being saved as a tag, which it looks like from your "Confirm Library Changes" message. The only fields being modified are those relating to the cover art.

"Also store image in file's tag" is/was unchecked
-
noone knows why it ask to tag when
Options > File Location > Cover Art and see if "Also store image in file's tag" and
Tools/Options/General/Importing and Tagging are unchecked?

It prompts when you make big changes to the library. It doesn't mean the big changes will write tags.
With tag writing off in Options > General, no tags are ever written.

thanks for clarifying that
the confusion arose with the sentence "Updating tag information... "
