Has the way the conversion cache is used changed between MC16 and MC17?
When doing iPod conversions previously all converted files ended up in the conversion cache, where they would sit ready for the next transfer. But I just did one with MC17 and noticed that no files were being created in the cache, they were created in TEMP and then deleted after transfer.
How do I get the files to remain so that they can be reused without having to reconvert them?

This seems to be working for me.
Double-check the conversion settings in Options > Handheld and the cache settings in Options > File Location > Conversion Cache.
Anyone else?

Options->File Location->Conversion Cache:
Audio: Z:\My Music (compressed)\
Temporary files: T:\MCTEMP\ (this is where all the files are currently showing up)
Handheld->Conversion
Always Convert, MP3 Encoder, No DSP
Anything else?

My conversion cache keeps growing, but I would like that to stop. Both my library and "portable device" are file shares, and I prefer to keep media on the server only to save space. The same server also holds my local full system backups, so I don't want to store 2 copies of each converted file.
My main library is a mix of WMA lossless & FLAC files, and my "portable device" is 320k MP3 CBR for max compatibility with other devices. I don't have any need to cache these since I have iTunes, Sonos, etc use the MP3 copies directly.
There's two options I see to limit this growth:
1. Is there any way to turn the cache on/off, or limit the size?
2. Is it safe to delete the cache if MC is not running? If so, I may set a scheduled task to do this before my system is backed up.
Thanks!

Tools > Options > File Location > Conversion Cache > Audio > Cache location: None (Do not create cache)
ditto for other media types.

Aha! I missed that. I didn't realize that was a dropdown, it looked like just a text box w/ file chooser. Thanks!
