Hi
Since greater version than 17.038 starting a video playback is much slower. If I press next in a couple videos it takes more than 5 seconds until the next video is playing. No video filter was changed and red october is used.

Additional comment: Video starting is much slower if you choose a video with the next or previous button. If you open the videos with a double click the videos are starting immediately.

I have no experience with previous versions, but I am surprised at how long it takes to "OPEN" videos. Files that other players open instantly can take up to five seconds of opening screen before it starts. I figured that was a tradeoff I had to make, because MC plays EVERY file I have ever thrown at it. No player can boast that :).

Does it speed up if you unselect hardware acceleration in Options > Video?
Could you post a log showing a slow start of a video?

I am sorry... newbie here.
How do I post a log?
I looked and found Logging, enabled it and now have a huge text file (200k). How do I get it to you?
Unchecking Automatic Video, Making it High Quality, Unselecting Hardware accelleration, nothing makes any difference. 3 to 5 seconds to open some videos. Some quicker, but all get the MC Opening page while we wait for it to "Open". :)

The wiki has a topic on logging.

I read that and did make the log. The wiki doesn't say what to do with it.
I am asked to "post a log", but the wiki says nothing on how to post it.
And I tried to paste it here but it was too long.
Update... Your sig has a stability link. the link has a logging section that says to let the MC email it.
I will try that.

You can do one of two things:
either use MC to generate an email for the logs from the Help->Logging page automatically (this needs an email client on your PC to do the email)
or click on the log in the same pane, save it somewhere and attach it to your forum post under additional options. It is considered polite to zip the file first to make the download easier/quicker especially if it is a big one. Txt files tend to zip quite nicely.
not sure if there's a preferred option? But either will get your log to the devs.
I guess it's nice to keep it in context and post it on the forum, because it will be apparent what it is about. Also a précis of the actions you took to generate the log/fault would be helpful in order to trace the log.
Note that if MC crashed, you'll need to send the previous log not the current one (because MC resets the log to a new one on startup). If you have a problem that is easily reproducible, then I would suggest a 'reset' of the log, reproduce the problem and then immediately send the log-to keep it as short and to the point as possible.

While I figure out how to make the machine do email (it has no email of it's own :)), I did see something I had never noticed. When you chose play now (like from the popup over a video thumbnail), it plays instantly. The delay in starting is only if I play a playlist, when I click "next" while playing a playlist of videos. They all are delayed a few seconds, some a few more, some a few less, but none play right off. They do if played "now". What is happening before it plays? It is over a network, but the same happens if the files are local.

Until you've reached a magic number of posts, you won't see the attachment option. Use an external service such as photobucket to upload, and then paste the URL either directly, or surrounded by [img]URL HERE[/img] tags to display inline.

Deselecting hardware acceleration makes no difference.

In other words:
0.1 seconds: Get the file and build most of the graph
5.0 seconds: Waiting
0.4 seconds: Finish and play
That 5 second wait is the problem. We're trying to wait for Theater View to close, etc.
What user interface mode are you in (Standard View, Theater View, etc.)? How are you starting playback?

And you did, they now start almost immediately. It looks like it holds the first frame for a half (quarter?) second first and then gets going. No "Loading screen" or any other delays.
