Title: ConvolverVST Channel Mapping
Post by: jdubs on January 04, 2012, 05:54:35 pm
Guys

I've generated correction filters with Audiolense with my channels (3-way active setup) mapped as such:

I.e., the channels for the left speaker are 0,1,2 and the channels for the right speaker are 3,4,5.  How do I make sure this is accurately reflected in all section of MC?

Thanks for any help.

JRiver Channels are:
1 L
2 R
3 C
4 Low
5 Rear L
6 Rear R
7 Side L
8 Side R

Channel 1 L will go to Channel 0 in ConvolverVST and come out 0,1,2
Channel 2 R will go to Channel 1 in ConvolverVST and come out 3,4,5

Put ConvolverVST last in the JRiver DSP processing chain.

JRiver needs to be set for 6 or more channels so it will process and output them all.
JRiver will output the channels as 1,2,3,4,5,6. Route those to your audio device.

Set ConvolverVST to read the config file created by Audiolense.
You can read it with a text editor and the syntax is explained at the Convolver web site.

Nuts, I guess I need to remeasure then as I can only route the outputs in pairs.  Sound right?

Thanks for the help on this.

It looks like you had it right to me.
What's not working?

The channels on my output device (Mbox Pro 3) don't reconcile to the output from MC.  Right now, my Mbox is outputting the following:

Channel    Amp
1,2          Bass amp
3,4          Midrange amp
5,6          Tweeter amp

Maybe I can just re-arrange the cables coming out of the Mbox so that:

Channel    Amp
1,4          Bass amp
2,5          Midrange amp
3,6          Tweeter amp

Does that make sense?  I wish I could change the outputs on the Mbox, individually, but it only let's me do so in pairs.

Thanks,
Jim

Are you using the ASIO driver for the MBox? If not, try that.
Be sure to pick the 2.0 config file.

Yes, using the ASIO driver.  When you say the "2.0 config file", you're referring to in Audiolense, correct?  If so, then yes, I did that when I did the measurements / generated the filters.

In MC, I have the output set for 5.1 channels and the mixing set to "Clone side channels to rear speakers".

Thanks,
Jim

ASIO channel ordering might be different than the standard depending on the hardware.

You might need to swap cables, or you can use Parametric Equalizer to move channels around.

You can use DSP Studio > Room Correction (with your final convolution disabled) to play test tones on each output.

Hey guys, I wanted to closed the loop on this.  I swapped cables around according to my above post and all is working well!

Thanks for all of the help.  I love this place.
