Title: Theater View - Explorer Function Question
Post by: TheDuke on January 16, 2012, 07:41:41 am
I really like the new function of being able to browse using explorer in theater view.
However one thing I am currently finding frustrating is the files come up as their name i think from metadata. They certainly are not coming up as their file name.
As the names are quite often gibberish, being able to browse by file name would be much preferable.

Add Filename (name) to your Disk view under:

Options > Theater View > Items to Show > Video > Disk > Disk > Details

It currently has "Location", which is the disk location.  If you add another category [Filename (name)], then you'll be able to navigate by filename.

  Details:
  Name: Disk
    Location
    Filename (name)

Could you give some example gibberish names and corresponding file names?

Thanks.

A recent backup that I downloaded has a file name

TV Show.S06E10.HDTV.XviD-LOL

The name that comes up in theater view - explorer is

Lol [Vtv]

Does it actually say "TV Show"?

If it does, I would expect "TV Show.S06E10.HDTV.XviD-LOL" to parse to:
Name: TV Show
Season: 6
Episode: 10

If you give me the full path (including directory), I can test it against the parser to see if it matches my expectation.

Thanks.

example

American.Horror.Story.S01E03.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi

American.Horror.Story.S01E04.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi

American.Horror.Story.S01E05.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi

all 3 just come up as Asap [Vtv]

I would be happier if I could switch off any parsing with the explorer option in theater view and just have the file name in full as it is. Then I know exactly what I am dealing with.

Any update on this
I find it a bit annoying
It makes sense to me that when browsing directories with an explorer type function that full filenames be used.
Only when adding to your library should the names be parsed at all

American.Horror.Story.S01E03.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi

Thanks for the samples.

It's tripping up our parser because it uses a little different naming scheme than I've seen before.

Do you know what the "-ASAP.[VTV]" part means?  I've seen a lot of files signed with a dash and a name, like:
Battlestar.Galactica.S03E01.720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-REPTiLE
Alphas.S01E01.Pilot.720p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.AAC2.0.H.264-SCi.mkv

But I haven't seen names with dots/spaces in them.  Is "ASAP.[VTV]" a name?

Thanks for any help.

A coming build will handle videos with multi-word signatures better.

The name in Media Center will be "American Horror Story S1E3" for the example you posted.  You can use Get Movie & TV Info to get more information like the episode name, etc.

Im actually finding this automatic naming a bit of a pain.

My TV Show files are named according to Show Season Episode and Title
The names of these files are now automatically changed to just the title of the episode.

Many of my playlists rely on being able to identify all the information in the name.

I now have to go back and manually change the name of each

Can I turn this function off
