Title: Best Places to get Album Graphics...
Post by: DocLotus on May 14, 2002, 06:16:59 am
After starting to use Album View, I decided that I want artwork for all my albums.
Have noticed that CDDB does not always return an album cover (none avaliable on the site).
So... I did a search with Copernic 2001 search engine... http://copernic.com/
for "CD Covers".  It returned 71 hits.  After looking at several, three great sites turned up...
CD-Covers.Com... http://www.cd-covers.com/main.html which is not really a CD Cover site but rather a rating system (1 - 5 stars) for all CD Cover sites.
It pointed me to the ultimate CD Cover site...
CD Cover Universe http://www.coveruniverse.com/
This site is very easy to use.  It has no covers of its own but links you to all sites that will have just the cover you are looking for.
So if you are using only one site, such as CD Covers.CC, you are missing many possible covers as CD Covers.cc, though very large, does not have every cover you want.

Did you see that MJ can retrieve album art automagically?  Open file properties, then click the Image tab, then click Get...

It's not perfect in selecting the right album, but works well for me.

Yes, I use it all the time but MJ seems to only retreive album art through the CDDB site which sometimes returns nothing as it does not have all the art.  I then go to the CD Covers Universe as they have links to all sites with cover art.  Try it next time CDDB does not return any art.  Often CD Covers Universe will bring up sites that do have the art you are looking for.

If MJ can't retreive the cover art I need (I don't know where it gets it from) I go off to Amazon.com

DocLotus I agree with you,
this nice feathure can be raised in database.

But if I am not in wrong, you are a programmer, isn't it?
Well, if YES i need ask you about an irritating issue which me like you, we are suffering (this is also preventing us to copy and paste an image here in forum):
we like many other people here in the forum, have lost our 'Hyperlink' (as I think it could be called, but not shure) in Internet Explorer, but not in i.e. Eudora.
For example: I was early able like in Harry|PLS|The|PLS|Hipster post to copy and paste an URL and get it automatically working but like you, not now; I tryed to change IE settings or reinstall IE without fix this issue. Next Page
In your opinion, what's happening?

Many Thanks

Stebajo

I like this one the best:
http://www.cdcovers.cc/

Has a nice collection of cd covers and much better sizes than Amazon for instance.

I have to agree with HTH, if I can't get a cover through MJ, I go to http://www.allmusic.com ,I just tried http://www.cdcovers.cc and although the site has a lot of covers it easily gets my vote as the most annoying web site of the year. I couldn't believe how many pop up windows that site has. I quickly ran out of that place and I feel like the windows are still popping up around me

I do wish that there was a better database available. Last night, I decided to add cover art to my mp3s, and wound up spending hours, and still not locating many album covers (e.g.. The Lucy Show - Undone [1985]), and for many, many others, all I could find was a poor quality .gif (e.g. Cat's Miaow - Songs For Girls To Sing [1997]). I found, maybe, 66% of the album covers that I searched for. Oh, and that included using Copernic Pro, a fairly powerful search tool, and lounging around a variety of chat groups with a focus on indie music, asking if anyone there knew where to look. No joy.

try adsubtract--makes CDcovers.cc tolerable

The image search at google might give you a picture of Lucy you could substitute for the album cover.

Our slideshow plugin uses this search and it's amazing what it comes up with sometimes.

Lucy? I'd best be careful so as not to make Linus angry, you know how protective brothers can be. Though, I hear that Schroeder has put up for auction on eBay some pretty racy photos that he has received over the years from Lucy.
