Title: Ipad, windows tablet or android as remote?
Post by: Chronic on January 27, 2012, 03:57:06 am
I want to buy a remote tablet but unsure what to to for?

my server is windows 7 pc but always liked apples products so thinking ipad2
I like having the whole media centre on my screen not just an app, thats fine for a smart phone tho I like gizmo.

Would an ipad display media centre in a nice way?
Does it work with a windows pc as the server?

appreciate any opinions

Thanks

i am testing in the moment monkeymote and gizmo

monkeymote install easy
gizmo install circular (first over internet)
but gizmo have a lot of more function. we can create own views for the phone/tab
that's great
both fast
in the moment my favorite   :D GIZMO  :D

If I were you Chronic, I would probably wait for the release of the Asus Transformer Prime with the x86 Intel CPU (not the current ARM CPU versions). That way you can run Win7 (soon Win8 which will be super for pads I think) and run a full fledged JRiver Media Center on it. You can use the Tremote functionality to get the Theater View "from" your server, directly to the pad. And you can control everything with touch.

I have not tested this yet my self, but this is definitively my biggest hope for a super remote control so far.

Yeah i absolutely love gizmo on my samsung galaxy smartphone, but its nice to have functionality of the whole media player on a tablet or laptop, i think im going to wait until the iPad 3, i can use my smarthone/gizmo for now & also use my laptop (w/tremote) aswell when i want to use the whole media player interface

Here's the wiki article on Remotes (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes).

PlugPlayer works really well with the iPad. I would assume that also applies to the iPad 3 when that comes out. PlugPlayer can remote MC, but you can also use the iPad as a renderer.

I split the discussion on whether iOS or Android was the better hardware choice:

C'est peut-etre le firewall sur le deuxieme PC.  Il y a un topic qui s'appelle "Network Access (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Network_Access)" sur le Wiki.
