Title: pdf and iso with sidecar?
Post by: Tolga on January 28, 2012, 10:36:36 am
Is there a way to customize MC to allow sidecars with filetypes other than videos? They would be very handy for pdf documents. This is the only remaining reason why media center is not my main method for maintaining my article library.

If this is not possible yet, does anyone know how to hack MC properties so that it thinks PDF's are video files? That might do the trick.

You could edit the "Media Type" field.  I think someone said they did this and then changed it back in the same situation you have.

that worked, before version 14.051..but that is not a nice solution

i totally agree with Tolga..yaobing has talked about this a few times to expand from "video" to other media types..

I couldn't get iso's act like videos, but I have not spent too much time on this.

In general, sidecars for any selected file format would be a great feature for people who want to keep tags separate from data. This would allow us to do checksum on data and diff on tags.

For mp3's, I use mp3bookhelper, which can do checksum on mp3 data without looking at tags, but it is not maintained anymore and it works only for mp3s.

I've mentioned this before.  I don't want MC to auto-generate the sidecar XML files for file types other than Video (that could be a giant mess).  However, if I manually do Library Tools -> Update Tags (from Library) on any file type where MC doesn't support in-file tags, it should create the sidecar, and use them if they're there on import.

I agree that this should be turned off by default.

I'd love sidecars for everything.
However, I would LOVE to be able to put them in a specified folder much like cover art.
Having all those xml and jpg files in the movie folder when it used to be just ISOs is driving me nuts ;)
