Title: mc 16 will not play videos correctly, with wmp and vlc they do play
Post by: raumklang on January 31, 2012, 07:28:57 pm
since a few days i have the problem that MC 16 will not play videos correctly.
system is win home xp sp3. MC 16 is the latest.

the same files play correct on my other comp. (win7)  also with MC 16.

first i got a error message like: i should install lav filter and should connect to the internet.
for sure i was not connected to the internet.
after checking all settings: red october standard etc. and connect to the internet and try to play the files it still won't work.

then i did a restore and reinstall of MC 16.

after this i did try to playback the files with all the standard playback settings and also connected to the internet.
now there are no error messages and the files will play, but only in black and white, very small, - size not correct and with two screens, - audio is o.k.

i tried to play the files on the same comp. via wmp and vlc, - this works perfectly !

the files  are avi and ifo files.

i hope somebody can help me to fix the problem.

greetings from austria

wilfried

It sounds like some DirectShow filter wasn't successfully downloaded or installed, but it's impossible to know why.

You could try uninstalling and removing registry entries when you do.  Then reboot and reinstall.

thank you for yor help.

i did a few times what you did recommend, but i still have exactly the same problem as described.

the thing is, i never had problems to play videos on this netbook which is my second computer.

this netbook is seldom connected to the internet, - so it will also seldom updated by windows or jriver media center.

i think, - but i am not sure the problem came after i had the netbook connected to the internet for updating.

looking forward for infos to solve the problem

wilfried

hello guys,

after nearly one month having the described problem, - nobody could help me to solve it ?
nobody from the users have similar problems ?

also all the people from jriver are not able to give any more answers ?

altough i did ask 4 times to bring my post up on the top again ?

to be honest, this is not the support i wish for a player i bought.

so i invite all the shy users, the shy people from jriver to start over again.

for the first reply i will pray a "vater unser"

Are you using the latest build of MC16?  It's here:
http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v16/stable/MediaCenter160181.exe

If you haven't done so, try updating your video drivers.

If you have, I'm out of ideas.  Sorry.

raumklang,

I wonder if the problem is caused by the Enhanced video renderer (EVR), or actually the lack of it. Is your XP system fully updated, including ".NET v.3" ?

By default MC uses EVR and it comes with .NET v.3: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=31 (install also the the later updates if not yet installed).

In any case you should provide more details. The usual things would be:

- Post info about the exact file format. By IFO you probably mean DVD video from a VIDEO_TS folder, but AVI is a container format that can contain various kinds of video and audio data. Mediainfo can inspect your files and generate a report: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

- Post playback log. Enable logging in Help > Logging... and start & stop playback. Immediately after that go back to Help > Logging... and open the current log file. Post the details here. If the file is too big you can zip it and attach the zip package to your reply. (To attach a file you can click "Additional Options..." when posting.)

- Post the DirectShow graph. Right-click MC's display during video playback and select DirectShow Filters > Copy graph info to clipboard.

- Post your system info from the Help menu. The latest MC17 build has redesigned "System Info". It provides quite a bit more info than before.

i did a search for a driver update in device manager for videocodecs, - fully updated.

the system is already updated with:

.NET 1.1
.NET 2.0 service pack 2
.NET 3.0 service pack 2
.NET 3.5 service pack 1

after reading your post i updated with .NET 4

still the same problem with every video format that is saved on the pc (avi,mp4,ifo)
