I've set DSP Studio to Source Bitdepth, and 5.1 output with JRSS. If I play a 16-bit FLAC, it outputs correctly at 16-bit. If I then go on and play an MP3 file, it is output at 24-bit. I assume this is correct for MP3, since 24-bit is the maximum bit depth my sound card supports. However, after having played the MP3, the setting on DSP Studio changes automatically to 24-bit, so if I try to play FLAC again, the output is 24-bit.

You should always pick the highest bitdepth your hardware supports (normally 24-bit). More here:

Thanks, I'll probably follow the advice and use 24-bit for all files but still, 'source bitdepth' isn't working correctly, right?

I'm not sure why MP3 is changing the setting. I wouldn't expect that.
It gets a little complicated because the MP3 decoder outputs 64bit, so "source bitdepth" is special for a lossy format like MP3. I think it maps to 24bit for these cases, but that doesn't explain why it would change your DSP Studio settings.
I'll test here a bit and see if I can make it happen.
