I have changed the location of all of my "source" files from 300-odd folders to a single folder in my hard drive - but now realise I have to change the location listing in all 6,000 files within MJ. Is there a fast way of doing this??

Try Import Media. Should be the quickest way for MJ to discover the new location of your files. File > Library > Import Media.

Import Media should work fine, but if you had already imported those files into MJ before moving them, you'll lose any info (like custom fields) associated with them in the internal database and have to re-enter that info after re-importing your files. At least, that's my understanding. Another option is to load the appropriate database (.jmd) files into a text editor (like TextPad or UltraEdit) and replace all occurences of the old paths with the new. This worked for version 7. Can't vouch for version 8, but it should work if the database files are ASCII.

or you could simply to an Update under import media and make sure to check the box in the update window that says remove files that no longer exist, and then after it completes that, run another import media from location and choose the location they are in and, viola, there you have all of your files listed in their new directory with all the same fields. At least it works for me everytime i modify files or move them.

Thanks to those who responded - problem fixed as a result.
