Title: Remove extra/old entries from the Windows Customize Notifications window
Post by: Scolex on February 07, 2012, 06:06:24 pm
With my recent MC upgrade to a 17 plus the subsequent updates I noticed that I had multiple entries in the Customize Notification window so I sought out a solution and figured I would share.
open the run command (start-->run or winkey+r) and type regedit
navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
delete both IconStreams and PastIconsStream
open task manager and end explorer.exe
click file > new task (run) enter explorer.exe
Now if you go back to the customize window all old entries will be gone

The one drawback is that programs that are not running but do have a notification icon associated with them will also no longer be present so you may have to change their notification setting in the future.

What you see when you click the little arrow next to the system tray and then customize in Windows 7 (Vista too I think) or right click on the clock and select customize notification icons.
