Title: 2012-02: Who Am I?
Post by: MrC on February 14, 2012, 01:06:50 am
From song and film,
  and blood and dust,
Beyond my prime,
  Sadly, confess I must.

Time and more have passed me by,
  it was my fate,
And I've earned my fame,
  in the forty-eight.

My fans, my fans! still cherish,
  hark! a renaissance, my revival,
My road surrenders its troubled life,
  an alliterative, along arrival.

There were Firsts and Honors,
  throughout my life,
A national treasure,
  without a Fife.

And though my path hath changed,
  oh... once or twice,
I've served the nation,
  bonny well, even thrice.

My journey ends in L.A.,
  and so, here we are,
A sign, a post, rest easy,
  would that I stay?

Maybe someone age 48 or perhaps this is not even recent: Alaska became the 49th state on January 3, 1959.

Route 66

We have a Winner!!!

Several ambiguous clues played along in the obvious ruse.

Route 66 has played an important part in American history, and continues to provide enjoyment for aficionados and tourists.

You're welcome.

While your forum name suggests perhaps ties to Arizona, your profile shows you to be from Langenthal, Switzerland.  I was worried that this month's riddle was too US-esoteric, but you've allayed such concerns.

When you're ready for the trip, drop me a line.  And perhaps you'll also see the famous... :

sometime back about 1968 or so my family made the trip from michigan up to flagstaff on rt 66, One place we stopped off at had hamburgers the size of a plate, and I could have sworn buffalo bill stated at the motel. every time the wind blew dust came up thru the floor boards. that was the worst motel I ever stayed in.

Hi MrC you won't believe  ;D

I made this photo last November.
We travelled from Los Angeles to Phoenix with a side trip to Lake Havasu City.
That day was quite cloudy with some sprays of rain. We missed the beautiful blue sky on your picture.
But nonetheless, the bridge and the amusing story ranking around is really impressive and always worth a trip.

My forum name actually reflects some emotional ties to Phoenix, AZ. It was my first visit back in 1991 and I was so impressed by this vibrant City and the area so totally different from Switzerland  :)
And I'm always happy to be there again from time to time. Even it's only for a couple of days. ...and it's a golfers paradise!

Thank you for your beautiful pictures along Route 66!

U.

Wouldn't it be a fun coincidence if we were both there on the same day!  We were at London Bridge on Nov. 5th, 2011.

If you'd like more pics to bring back memories of the lake, the bridge, and surrounding areas, send me a PM and I'll post them.

We missed each other by one week exactly, funny. My picture was taken on November 12th, 2011 around 1pm.
Were you on a holiday trip too or are you living in the Lake Havasu area?

Holiday.

Grand Canyon National Park, Walnut Canyon National Monument, Oak Creek scenic drive, Sedona, Montezuma Castle National Monument, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, Painted Desert/Petrified Forest National Park, London Bridge, Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, with portions of Route 66, hundreds of miles of scenic drives, historic resorts, and towns.

We live in the S.F. Bay Area.  Maybe the name of the mountain 40 miles from our front door (attached image) could be a future Who Am I? :-)
