Apologies if this is a silly question - how can I make TV shows in the same season appear in chronological order under Theater View?
A full season of shows now only appears in alphabetical order when navigating in Theater View, which makes it a little bit of a pain to watch them in the proper order, as I need to go to each individual episode to check what number it is; however in Gizmo on an Android phone they seem to appear in the right order...I am sure I must be overlooking something, would appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Doru

Is the episode number filled in?
Ideally it should be. If it is, you can use episode in your sorting.
You'll need to customize the Theater View views (Options > Theater View) and configure the sorting for the views in question to include episode number.

I think the default sorting for a set of television episodes should probably be updated to do this automatically. I think default sorting may always be by name for videos currently.

Thanks Matt, I was just about to reply to my own post and say I saw in another thread a possible solution:
You have to go to Option, Theater View and Items to Show. You select the view that you want to change and hit the Set rules for file display.
On the bottom options you select Sort By and click add. Add Season (A-Z) and then Episode (A-Z). That means that it will sort by season first, and then episode numbering. You should play a bit with this view settings and try to add your own views. There's a lot of possibilities, and there is only a small portion of this added as default.
Will give it a shot, thanks,
Doru

In a coming build:
Changed: Default sorting for television shows will use Series\Season\Episode\Name instead of just Name.

Can this also be a default in standard view under video as (TV Shows) - like Movies already is?

This is nice! Always had to change that one.

It will be.
Sorting defaults are based on the files in the list of files, so Standard View vs Theater View, etc. should not matter.

OK - so just so I'm clear on this. Right now there no default TV Shows under video like there is movies - correct. In a coming build there will be? Also it will only show Tagged TV Shows videos - correct? Nested like Series \ Season \ episodes (descriptions).

We're not changing the default Standard View video views.
Someday I want to make them better match Theater View / Gizmo, but I don't know when it will happen.
For now, you can create your own 'Shows' view in Standard View that only shows [Media Sub Type]=[TV Show].

That would be good. How do I do that?

See the customizing views thread:

You'll create a rule that show only files where [Media Sub Type]=TV Show.

Hi,
I was looking for Media Centre to do the same.
Can't you just tell us as that link is massively complicated.
I did try and add episode to the Options>Theatre View> Items to Show> Shows>Season but that just showed each episode as a separate folder. Rather than
The thing is I don't think anyone has ever said, “You know what dear I fancy watching some TV from the Suspense/Thriller genre”. Most people probably say I fancy watching House season 2 again oh and in order.
Cheers

First, be clear about what you want to do. Then we can help. How would you like your view set up?

Here's a screen shot (of the "Set rules for file display" box):

Just as the original poster wanted.
Series>Season>Episode list in number order. (Episode title and number would be nice if possible).
The Theatre View Season works apart from it orders the episodes alphabetically.
I’ve tried adding episode after in the option for Theatre view but that then puts each episode in a separate folder.

Yep that’s worked a treat thanks.
Now how would I replicate that in non theatre view mode?
What I’d like to be able to do is ‘drill down’ via the thumbnails on the lower pane if that makes sense.
As it stands if I use the 'tree' at the side to get to a specific season the order is again alphabetical.
Thanks again
John
