Hi guys,
I'm using MC version 17 with a Logitech harmony remote and Zalman HD135 case. The Zalman has a built in IR transceiver (M-Play from VL Sys http://www.vlsys.co.kr/) which drives WMC perfectly fine while under JRiver MC the only commands that work are play/ pause, select, channel up/down.
If I press up or down, it moves from one menu to another instead of one album to another…
I have disabled WMC in J river option but it has not changed anything.
I have tried to learn commands but nothing can be learnt.
I am not an expert but for me it is definitely a software issue rather than a hardware one.
I have made some research on this forum + google but could not find a solution
Thanks for your help.

Are you in Theater View? The arrow keys on a remote won't work well in Standard View.
-
Thanks for your post.
I have the problem in any view.
-
If it doesn't work in Theater View, then the Arrow keys on the remote aren't sending the correct IR sequence. These are the Arrow keys that surround the OK button.
-
Yes these are the Arrow keys that surround the OK button.
But the arrows work perfectly under Windows Media Center.
-
Perhaps WMC supports a different sequence. I don't know the difference.
Test in Theater View, not in Standard View. Use the up and down arrows also.
-
I have already tested in theatre view and it does the same thing.
-
When you set up the Harmony, did you select "JRiver Media Center" or "Windows Media Center"? Maybe try re-flashing your remote with the opposite one. Maybe it was a bad flash from the beginning
-
When I set up my harmony remote, I can select my Zalman Case but not the Media Center.
-
Are you using the web interface for Harmony, or the older dedicated program? I know the web interface version will let you select JRiver as an option.
When I set up my harmony remote, I can select my Zalman Case but not the Media Center.
-
I use "Windows Media Center" for my Harmony remote to emulate. I never saw JRiver MC as an option on the Harmony site, but JRiver uses all of the WMC button codes, so it should not make a difference.
I think the OP's problem is that he selected the "Zalman Case" rather than Media Center when he did the setup.

Thanks guys for your posts.
I use the Logitech Harmony Remote Software. Is there an other way to configure a Logitech remote??
The thing is that my remote is working properly in WMC and it is only with JRiver that I have this kind of problem...
-
Last but not least. In the remote Control Setup of MC, when I click "Next" I have a message saying
"You don't appear to have a Media Center receiver connected to your computer. Please connect it and try again."

When I set up my harmony remote, I can select my Zalman Case but not the Media Center.
when I set mine up with the Moneual case I used the vlsystems model number of the vfd.
I suspect it is the remote/vfd control software that is messing this up. Mine has a highly configurable system that changes what the remote keypresses do for each program eg. 7MC has its own key translations and I've added MC17 and tailored it to my own needs. There is a default template for key translation for the case when you are using software that it doesn't recognise. This may be blank for things like MC17 and so the remote keypress doesn't translate into anything.
Did you load this from CD and have you anything similar?

I have done several researches on this forum to find additional answers but found nothing unfortunately.
I am not the only MC client having this problem as:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=65548.msg475414#msg475414
Two interesting points: 1) when I launch MC, the AmazonMP3 advertizing windows appears and within that window the up and down arrows of my remote works perfectly 2) I have the same issue using the original remote received with my Zalman Case so the problem is not coming from my Logitech remote.
-
Thanks SBR for your help.
Just two questions:
1) Could it be the problem knowing that my remote works perfectly with Window Media Center?
2) Could it be the problem knowing that I face the same issue with the original remote?
Thanks

Both really.
I have seen issues with general flakiness of the mplay software. For me it sometimes fails to load up at boot time about 10% of times. Otherwise, since I added MC17 (and previously MC16) to the list of programs it knows about (and hence knows what to do with keypresses) it has been fine.
It sounds like the logitech is set up correctly since it mirrors the original remote. It works fine in WMC so that program receives the correct key translations. But for some reason MC17 isn't getting an equal key translation.
Is there a way of adding MC17 as a specific case in your version of mplay?

Unfortunately you cannot add MC17 as a specific case...
-
Oh dear.
A quick look at the mplay software manual online suggests that for the case of 'unknown program' or default or whatever, then the arrow keys are set up as follows:
Up arrow: Shift Tab
left arrow: Shift tab
right arrow: Tab
Rather than the relevant arrows.
Is there no way of customising your mplay? Bizarre.
Seems to be under 'Remote Control' and 'Application Command' in the newer versions.
If it really is not customisable, then maybe give LCDWriter a go. I'm planning to try it to see if I can get remote control to work 100% rather than 90% of boot ups!

This is exactly what happens...Shift Tab instead of Up or Down.
No you can't customise mplay (I will double check tonight as I am at the office right now)
What is LCDWriter?
Thanks SBR for your support.

Lcdwriter is an alternative program to mplay. It is written by babgvant who posts here regularly.
You may be able to download a more recent mplay program from the vlsystems site.

Ok thanks, I had a look at the vlsystems website yesterday night but did not know which driver I should download...

I think your driver is working fine. It's the mplay software that needs tweaking!

Sorry, I meant software.
-
I managed to find a way to customize some keys of my remote through the M-Play software.
Not perfect but sufficient to use MRMC.
Thank you all for your help.
