Hi
can anyone confirm the best output mode for the V-link on Windows XP (i.e. WASAPI not available)
the jriver wiki indicates Kernel Streaming but initially I couldn't get this to work so I switched to Direct Sound. Is it worth persevering with Kernel Streaming? Are there any obscure config changes I need or will it just not work at all?
I have been using an EMU 0404 USB with ASIO. I'm not convinced the V-link sounds as good and I presume this is because direct sound may mess with the signal, though it does retain the sample rates I am using from Media Center (88.2k and 96k). Reason for switching is though the Emu works fine with J River it will not work with BBC Radio streaming. The SPDIF outputs are only active when used in ASIO mode. So I have to use a different solution to get BBC Radio 3 on iPlayer - which is superb, by the way. I suppose I could keep using both.
rest of the system is Meridian 562 controller and Meridian DSP3100 speakers
many thanks
John

The problem with XP is the low quality of the DSP as implemented in the kmixer.
If you are using DS you can avoid the kmixer to kick in if:
• the master volume control is set to 50% and the "Wave" to 100%,
• 1 and only one audio stream is playing,
• the sample rate is supported by the audio device,
• the bit depth is supported by the audio device.
