Title: Unable to play
Post by: johnjjiii on March 03, 2012, 03:14:56 pm
Good afternoon everybody. I'm a newb so bear with me please. I'm still on the trial version. I have been trying to play a file that I downloaded from HDTRACKS (paid for FLAC track). When I try to play it I get a message that says it cannot get the DRM license rights. ? The file was paid for. Why can I not play it? (Not just one file... many). I know that some of my library was just downloaded from NAPSTER/RHAPSODY and not paid for. Those are NOT the ones I'm having trouble with.

Are you using Media Jukebox?  What is the full version?

I'm using whatever opens when I double click on the MEDIA CENTER icon on my desktop. Bear in mind that computers and I don't always "play nice".

Thanks,

John

Ok, you're using Media Center, not Media Jukebox.  I'll move this thread to the Media Center board, but go to Tools/About and see what version you're using.

Looks like 17.0.82

I'm guessing that, when you try to play the FLAC file, there are some Windows Media files included in the list of songs to play.

In MC, use the Tree on the left to find the Artist or Album of the FLAC file, select the track, then press the Play button at the top left.  That way, you'll probably have only FLAC files selected.

You can delete files from the library if they don't work.

My library consists of FLAC. WMA, and MP3 files. Are you saying that I will not be able to play some of those?

They should all play, but it sounds like you've got a Windows Media file for which there is no licensing service available.  A company went out of business, for example.

Try playing them in Windows Media Player just to see what happens.

I don't know if it tells you anything or not but the file in question will play in Mediamonkey. I'll try what you said.

I was just now able to play one song by making a shortcut to my desktop and then play it on Media Center. When it tried the second song I got the DRM message again. ?? No luck with windows media.

Make sure you've got audio set up correctly.

When it fails in MC, go to Playing Now and see which files are not causing problems.

Hate to have to do this right now but I've got to go. I'll check back later. Thanks for your time and effort today. I would really like to get this sorted out. I've heard really good things about this service.

Thanks again,

John
