I'm a long time user and I've noticed for several versions of MC 17 that it regularly freezes up if I leave it 'open' overnight (when not in use). I rarely turn my PC off. My JRMark is 2711 so I think my PC specs are fine. I'm using 17.0.99. I've looked through the troubleshooting FAQ, but most issues seems to be related to video - I'm using MC for audio only, and regular view, not theater view. Any ideas where to start?

are you using the "Windows 7 Taskbar Progress Plugin"?
While I didn't actually see any freezing, I have noticed that when using this plugin, MC can become extremely slow to respond in some areas when left running for periods in excess of eight hours.
After removing the plugin, MC can now be left up three or four days without a performance hit.
If you are not using the plugin, I don't know what your issue might be. Something in auto import perhaps?

Yes, I was about to report this too. It's actually faster to force quit and relaunch MC. :(

Oh....and I often (but not always) get a message box pop up that's titled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
it just happened again :(

Disable any third party plug-ins.

thanks Jim. I'm not aware that i've ever installed any third party plugins, but to be sure, how do I check - I went to plug-in but can't tell what is third party - they all look like JR plug-ins ?

Disable any third party plug-ins.
I don't have any third party plug-ins either.

Mine does that too - I have got to the point of shutting MC down when I stop using it and restart. I had it with MC 16 first and 17 as well.
Jack
I should add that this happens when I 'pause' playing from a playlist and let it sit overnight or longer. It does not respond when trying to resume and I have to close the program and restart.

What if you stop playback instead of pause overnight?

I always stop playback, Matt.

I think we're tracking several different problems in this thread.
Are you saying it's slow or locks completely?
If it's locking, please email me a lock log.
Thanks.

I have turned the logging feature on - and will let sent a file when it occurs.

Sorry for causing confusion. In my case, resuming results in total non-responsiveness to clicks anywhere in MC... but eventually it 'wakes up' and all is good again. Since it doesn't eventually resurrect, I've described it as 'slow to respond'. It can be long enough that it's quicker to force quit and restart the application.

Could it be drives spinning back up?

I have logs - I have attached them.

Mine locks up completely as well at least once every day. I wrote a script to completely shutdown and restart MC. But lately I've had to resort to rebooting my machine. What info can I send to diagnose?
