Title: RecordPlayer to PC

I have a friend that wants to record his record albums to his pc.  He doesn't have a receiver.  Is it possible to hook one up straight to a pc?  What do you do with that grounding wire or whatever it is?

Hard to answer because we do not know about what you speak
Do you min lps,vinyl records?
You cannot plug a turnable to your pc.You need a pre-amp
If you mind to plug the stereo system,yes you can
Again not understand your ground question.You have to ground the system on his own first
I have a friend who did put the ground on his computer.Do not know if there is a problem with poluting noise  in this case

Yes, you need to go through a "phono" pre-amp before plugging into the computer to get decent quality. Not only is the level very low (causing poor signal to noise ratio), but LP's were recorded with a distorted equalization curve to compensate for some inherent deficiencies in the system. The phono pre-amp compensates for this equalization curve.
