Title: XBox 360 Wireless Controller and J River Media Centre [SOLVED]
Post by: fooze on March 19, 2012, 04:11:54 am
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get my XBox 360 controller to work with J River without much luck so far.

I've gone into Tools, Options, Remote Controls and set Selected Input Devices to "Keyboard, gamepad and other HID" only. Then when I went to Commands and start learning, it doesn't recognise any button presses on the controller. I've tried all the buttons on the controller, and holding them down for up to 10 seconds. The gamepad works with all other software.

I've tried restarting the computer and making sure the controller is on before starting Media Centre.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Matt

oops forgot this:

Media Center 17.0.99.0 registered -- C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 17\

 Workstation 6.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
AMD Unknown 2810 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 4194 MB, Free - 3229 MB

Interface Plugins:
  TiVo Server (Active)

Huh that's weird, Winkey + PauseBreak says I have 8GB RAM.

I've had great success with HID devices and EventGhost (an easier, opensource alternative to girder) and JRiver (among other apps).
Its free- very easy to identify your HID devices and control just about anything.
There is a HID plugin you need and a JRiver plugin.
Eventghost: http://www.eventghost.org/
Plugins: http://www.eventghost.org/docs/pluginlist.html
JRiver Plugin: http://www.eventghost.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1600&hilit=jriver

Yeah,... I don't see this as SOLVED at all.

There is a place in JRiver to say you want to use a gamepad but weather that's on or off makes zero difference as far as I can tell.

I use a Xbone wireless controller and I went into options and enabled Gamepad as a controller and ... zip. nothing.

My guess is you then have to use a 3rd party option to make the gamepad to keyboard inputs and that's what was done above here using either eventghost or joy2key.

But ... That works even if there was no place to tell JRiver you have a gamepad .. so please,.. what is the option to enable gamepad as a controller for? Does it do anything at all?
